Great little TV

I have only had it a week and it is my first HD TV and I think it is great. I bought it for the bedroom and watch it from about 12 feet away and the screen size in my opinion is perfect. I can see all the detail but the set is not so large as to be obtrusive.

Picture quality is excellent for over the air channels using a coax cable to an external antenna that is in the attic. Sound is good and I think the Energy Star rating is a plus. There is a option to enhance the frequencies of the human voice so I can better understand what is being said. I think this really works.

I had a gift card for Fry's so I did not buy from Amazon this time but I did research other brands and sizes here. Like I said this is my first HD but I have looked at a ton of them at Best Buy and Costco. I cannot remember seing another set that had a better picture but I haven't really seen too many of the smaller screen sizes. It may just look better because it is small but I cannot imagine what 1080 would give you over the 720 it has. The LED may have something to do with it as well. I have seen no motion blur or ghosting and it is 60hz refresh rate.

"I have had this TV for two weeks. It is a superb unit. It connected to a cablebox using an HDMI cable. I purchased the set to use in a bedroom and to take with me to show videos that I use to assit me in teaching. It weighs only 12 pounds and can be moved easily from place to place. The HD picture is superb. I found that the factory setting for sharpness was too intense. I reset it to 20 to make the picture softer. The non-HD picture was good but not equal to the HD picture quality. The sound is good. It has automatic volume control to keep the sound constant during the ads. I really like that feature. It also has an earphone jack. I found that my Bose noise canceling headphones ("Q3's) produced an annoying hum. However, my non noise canceling headphones worked just fine. The progressive scan DVD player is outstanding. The THX version of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was superb. It will play movies on DVD-R discs. I use imovie and idvd to edit my home movies. The DVD played them with ease. I like Sharp TV's. I also own a 37" Sharp LCD HD TV which is 5 years old. The picture quality is still great and has been trouble free. Even though the price is bit more spendy than for similar models,the overall quality of the 19" Sharp TV makes the cost reasonable and it deserves a five star rating. "

"As most here have said, this TV is great. There is one problem though and I spoke with Sharp tech. support and their response was "that's the way it is and there is no fix." Also, this my second unit and they are both the same way so it was not a fluke. The issue is volume (and it may not be an issue for others). When using the TV the volume is more than enough, but playing a DVD movie the volume is only about 1/2 of what the TV volume is. This is an issue for me because I will be using this TV in an RV and when the A/C is running you'll need to turn the volume all the way up to hear it. Other than that, this is a great TV! "

" We bought this TV for an exercise room and love it. The picture is great and having the DVD player built in is very convenient. We hung it on the wall so we could watch it while using our exercise bike.

The sound quality isn't awesome but it's certainly adequate. Since the TV also plays CDs and MP3's, a bit more bass would have been nice, but no big deal.

Ordering from Amazon was far easier, less expensive, and very convenient since they delivered it right to our front door. "

" I did a bunch of research, and in this size category it came down to either the LG, or the Sharp as the best choices for TV's currently in production with these specifications (including the built in DVD player). Looking at multiple sites for reviews the Sharp just had better overall reviews, plus the LG has a dark red bar across the bottom of the TV which I personnally thought looked a little tacky. I attached the TV to an articulated wall mount, and it fits nicely on the VESA 200X200 adapter plate that came with the wall mount. The articulated wall mount allows me to move the TV around for use in the whole room. One of the features that this TV has that I decided to use is a computer input so that the TV can also be used as a moniter. It works great in this capacity. The only thing on this TV that I would improve is that when you change the channel there is aproximately a 2 second delay before the channel comes up. In my opinion with this being the worst thing I can say about the TV, this is a great product, I would definately purchase this set again. "

"Just got one of these for the bedroom and mounted it via the "LCD Articulating Wall Mount for Screens Up To 22 In with vesa 75/100MM" that was recommended. The tv came well packaged and in the original toshiba box, and while the box was pretty beat up and about to fall open there was no damage to the display.

The tv is reasonably sleek looking with its all gloss black enclosure, and has a reasonably small profile, especially for an integrated dvd unit. It's also surprisingly light and I was able to wall mount it by myself, although I don't recommend it as you have to procariously hold the tv in one hand while you align it with the wall mount so that you can get the first screw in.

The resolution looks very sharp when viewing HD channels, contrast is great, good viewing angle, dark dark blacks, vivid and seemingly acurate colors. I'm very happy with the quality of the picture. The sound is decent for a bedroom tv, but probably not adequate for something like a family room, in which case you should be looking at a larger tv anyway.

The integrated dvd player works great, and is even able to play divx encoded video files off a burned data dvd. The dvd player seems to somehow detect if you have a widescreen format dvd, in which case it will display it in Full picture size (16:9), otherwise for full screen format it shows it in Normal (4:3). I'd actually just prefer it to remember what picture size I last selected and stick with that, instead of trying to detect it on its own. Of course you can always change the picture size once the movie is started. The remote also has a dvd eject button, which is a nice touch that I find useful; many others don't include this..."

"This HDTV is an ideal size for my Study/Home Office (similar to a small bedroom). The video quality is excellent with only basic cable (no set-top box) "out of the wall". It displays HD and digital signals from high to low: 1080i; 720p; 480i depending on what level a given station is broadcasting. You can see the slight differences in quality, but all are sharp and clear. The Analog signals also look better than on an "old-fashioned" TV, just not as sharp as the lowest quality DTV signal. DVD's play very easily and the video quality is super.

One minor gripe (as others have mentioned), the audio quality is only adequate (at least compared to the home theater quality many of us are now used to). I've found the volume range to be more than satisfactory for a small to mid-size room; I keep it right at the middle volume level for most all programs. Considering the size and price range of this DTV, I think this level of audio performance is probably reasonable. However, by adding a modest 2.1 "computer" speaker system (plugged into the headphone output), I now have a thoroughly enjoyable audio experience to enhance the set's excellent video. Problem solved by a minimal $25 add-on.

And what a delightful shopping experience from Amazon--I found exactly what I was looking for; the price was the best anywhere; NO shipping or tax charges; and it arrived 1 day early in PERFECT condition! "

"There are very few small HDTV/DVD combo units out there. This seemed the most reasonable. I use this as a TV for the porch or the extra bedroom. The only fault I have with this is that each channel change takes 3-5 seconds. I have an LG that is about 2 seconds for channel change - liveable. I contacted Toshiba and it seems it's not a big deal to them. If you don't flip alot between channels it shouldn't be a problem (I do, on every commercial, and that is cumbersome). So, I wouldn't recommend this for the primary set in the house, but as an extra, it's fine."

"I was looking for a white or silver tv for my kitchen. Very difficult to find an under the cabinet height white tv - so was excited to have found this. I was disappointed when it arrived because it did not have the holes necessary to mount it underneath the upper cupboards with mounting hardware. I had read reviews indicating this was a problem on smaller Toshibas so I made the effort to call, before ordering and verify that this one could be mounted. The sales/service people assured me this model could be mounted. That was not accurate. This model can not be mounted (has no mounting holes) and the stand can not be removed. I haven't had this long and haven't even tried the DVD player but the picture is great so I am keeping it - it will just have to sit on the countertop."

Set up was easy and the picture is sharp straight on. Looking at an extreme angle is a problem with all LCD pictures. The DVD player is simple to operate, but the remote has numerous functions that require going back to the manual because they're not often used. "

"This TV is very easy to set up and the difference in HD and regular channels is definitely noticeable. The sound is great - others complain about the sound not going high enough but we have had no problems with the sound and the TV is in our living room. The DVD is definitely a HUGE bonus and I would not buy a flat screen unless it has this option - it eliminates the need to purchase a DVD separately and have another electronic piece to place somewhere.

One setback: there is no 'recall' button on the remote, but compared to the overall positives about this TV, this issue is minor and almost unimportant and I would recommend this TV for bedroom use or living room use in a small apartment. "

"If you are looking for a very small LCD TV, this is a nice product. If you have room for a 19", by all means I would go for the larger screen. Keep in mind that, even with the abundance of digital and high def signals out there today, many channels/programs will be broadcast in 4:3 format. Since this TV is a 16:9 profile screen, a 4:3 display will appear that much smaller on this 15.6" screen.

However, if you have a tight space, like on a kitchen counter under cabinets, this TV is perfect. It included a built in DVD player, which is a nice perk. The picture is vivid and HD display on it is excellent. At this size there is absolutely no reason to go for 1080p. For a 15.6" screen, or even a 19", 720p is fine.

At this screen size, Toshiba's competition tends to be "store brands" or no-name brands. This is the lone high quality name brand TV in this class (size).

What included in the box:

* 15.6" (measured diagonally) flat screen TV.

* Attached stand.

* Remote control.

* Power cable.

The TV comes with a QAM tuner so you can pull any unscrambled analog and digital TV signals from your cable company. The TV accepts coax and ColorStream component connections.

PROs:

* Vivid picture

* Fully adjustable backlight and picture format, as well as all the usuals (brightness, contrast, audio, etc.).

* Excellent sound.

* Matte finish screen reduces glare so screen is viewable in bright and low light situations.

CONs:

* Tuner is fairly slow when switching stations.

* Stand is not adjustable for different angles or height.

Overall, this is a nice TV for the price and has many of the functions you'd want. An adjustable stand would be nice but at this size its not a necessity. I'm not sure why the tuner lags as much as it does, taking approximately 2-4 seconds in between channels. If you channel-surf often, this will annoy you. I would have rated this a 5 had it not been for the slow tuner.
